 Is to enhance the professional image of Home Child Care Providers and to create opportunities for mutual support, education and information sharing.

OUR GOALS:

  • improve the quality of childcare offered through the independent childcare system.
  • reduce isolation and enhance self-esteem of caregivers
  • promote professionalism.
  • inform caregivers of community events and share resources.
  • document and service the needs of caregivers.
  • share information on how to operate your childcare as a business
  • to stimulate and freshen quality care in the home environment
  • develop positive relationships among caregivers, parents, resource centres, the children they work with and the community on a daily basis.


Day Nursery Minimum Standards Guidelines for Home Daycare

  • all adults (18 years) and older who are on the premises regularly must have a Criminal Reference check
  • the number of daycare children receiving care in the home must not exceed 5
  • The following number of children in each of the following classifications cannot be exceeded at any given time:
  • 1. two handicapped children
  • 2. two children who are under 2 years of age
  • 3. three children who are under 3 years of age
  • school age children up to and including the age of 12 years may be accommodated along with younger children where appropriate.  Children over the age of 10 years must be counted in the same way as other children i.e., there can only be a total of five daycare children with one provider at any time.
  • your home must comply with municipal by-laws, health, fire and zoning requirements.
  • you must comply with the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2006
  • indoor and outdoor play equipment should meet the numbers and developmental needs of the children in your care
  • cribs or playpens that meet the Hazardous Products Act are required for infants and cots or beds for older children
  • all equipment should be maintained in a clean safe condition and kept in good repair
  • outdoor play must be supervised at all time
  • poisonous and hazardous materials are to be inaccessible to children
  • the child care provider must have policies and procedures in place regarding

  • 10.Parental involvement
  • varied, flexible and age appropriate programs must be planned which include quiet and active play as well as individual and group activities that are designed to promote gross motor and fine motor skills, language and cognitive skills, and social and emotional development and the program of activities is to be made available to parents.
  • each child who is in attendance for six or more hours in a day and is over 30 months of age is required to have outdoor activities for at least 2 hours daily, weather permitting
  • each child under 30 months of age in attendance for 6 hours or more daily is required to be outdoors for sleep or play or both for up to two hours each day, weather permitting
  • each child who is in attendance for six or more hours in a day and is between 18 months and 5 years of age is required to have a rest period not exceeding 2 hours following lunch
  • a child who is unable to sleep is not kept in bed (cot/playpen) for longer than one hour and is allowed to get up and participate in quiet activities.
  • Provider and persons(including the providers own children) regularly on the premises must be immunized as recommended by the local medical officer of health, unless a fully authorized exemption is on file in the home.
